Volunteer opportunities as Lay Apostles

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations” Mathew 28:19.

Living and serving in a Catholic community is a wonderful opportunity to give the gift of yourself, and your love of Christ. "When you give yourself you find yourself", our late beloved Holy Father, John Paul II, told us.  Our Lord and Our Lady have called many to generously give of themselves in the work of Lay Apostles (volunteers) among the people of the Turtle Mountain Reservation.  Volunteer opportunities are great and varied in nature as you will see listed below.

We are regularly seeking Lay Apostles (volunteers) to assist in the following ways:

ST. ANN'S CATHOLIC SCHOOL: With a limited operating budget we depend upon volunteers in the area of teaching, teacher’s aids, art and music, P.E., office help, development (fund raising), buildings and grounds and other staff.

SUMMER CAMP:  The summer camp is a wonderful program, serving about 250 to 300 youth per summer which requires the generosity of many people serving as camp mentors and leaders.

YOUTH MINISTRY:  There are well over 500 Catholic high school students in the surrounding area.  Constant effort is needed to reach out to them. The work involves weekly planning and activities, retreats, outreach, work in abstinence and a variety of other needs.  For several years we have men and women giving of themselves in this work for a year, two or three years.

CATECHETICAL NEEDS (or) FAITH FORMATION:  There are potentially over 1000 children who are of school age who could be in a catechism program.  Some of our dedicated people go out to the housing projects and offer classes to children for their sacraments and other faith formation. Tremendous opportunities exist in doing work like this.  Persons willing to reach out are a great gift for the community.

BASIC FUND RAISING / DEVELOPMENT WORK:  To accomplish the work of Our Lord God takes prayer, people and financial support.  People knowledgeable and/or interested in learning development are needed so the work of Our Lord and Lady  can continue and grow.

MAINTENANCE:  These are wonderful old facilities with daily opportunities to challenge even the most seasoned of handy men.

PASTORAL MINISTRY:    Both the nursing home and a retirement home are filled with people who never grow tired of seeing new faces.  Our ministry to the local jail also welcomes visitors! With our poor there are always people seeking assistance in a variety of ways.

COMMUNITY LIFE

As a community of Our Lady’s Society we strive to pray, live and work with one mind and heart, which, as we all know, demands a continual effort.  As volunteers come and go, we invite and encourage them to join us in all daily gatherings of meals, recreation, study and prayer (Daily Eucharist, the Liturgy of the Hours, rosary, spiritual exercises, Eucharistic Adoration, and personal meditation).
